My first attendance at the ASCE SEI Structures Congress took place in Orlando, Florida in April 2019. I participated in 3 sessions:
- “Understanding Embodied Carbon Measurement and Reduction” as a presenter
- I stood in for my talented colleague Duncan Cox to share the current status of our embodied carbon measurement and reporting capabilities. TT has been leading in this area for almost 10 years well ahead of it becoming the industry norm.
- I discussed our Dynamo-powered data collection method for extracting data from our Revit models. This model information is coupled with design information and material information to create an embodied carbon takeoff.
- The slides are available here.
- “Business of BIM Debate” as a moderator
- We structured this session as a debate about some key topics in BIM. We presented both sides of some contentious issues:
- Current challenges
- Do we need BIM at all?
- Do we need modelers?
- Future challenges
- When does BIM become the contract deliverable?
- Who pays?
- Current challenges
