Information Technology Management

My role in Digital Design at Thornton Tomasetti is split into 3 parts, BIM management, corporate research and development, and traditional IT management. The IT management part of the job includes several goals related to creating and maintaining the “foundation” for the BIM integration work and included the following:

  • Owning key vendor contracts including some of the largest software contracts the firm has: Autodesk, Trimble, and Bluebeam:
    • This included negotiating the transition from perpetual licensing to an enterprise agreement as well as several transitions from perpetual to subscription software
    • Day to day management of these relationships including on-going maintenance and consulting / strategic engagements.
  • Managing adoption and phase out of key tools including that for training, virtual reality
  • Working with the IT security, Corporate Security, and practice leadership to develop:
    • security policies to enable our secure team to work securely from any location
    • requirements for vendors to support the increasing adoption of cloud tools
  • Managing, maintaining, and monitoring a production server modeling network as outlined here.
  • Managing a production license server network for our primary modeling tools
  • Developed a novel configuration deployment system to ensure consistent toolset across all staff in a hybrid (in office / virtual) staff
  • Lots of advising on other areas of IT policy including infrastructure, end-user computing experience, software deployment strategy, large format printing, and corporate data collection and maintenance.
